How do I keep cats out of my garden?

I'm fed up of cats bringing dead birds into my garden. Is there something I can put in my garden to keep cats out!! Some kind of smell that they don't like or something like that?

How do I keep cats out of my garden?
There are a hundred and one different ideas for keeping cats out, and I reckon we've tried 'em all at various times. The only effective thing I've found is one of those super-soaker water pistol things. Once moggie has had his fur soaked a few times he'll get the message. Plus it isn't harmful and improves your aim!
Reply:There are some sick people about. It's a shame that punishment for shooting animals isn't along the lines of an eye for an eye any more!

Seriously though, sprinkle cayenne pepper or chilli powder around the areas you want to keep the cats out of. Trying to keep them out of an entire garden may be more difficult. From the studies I've done, the noise emitters don't work.

There is a school of thought that a cat leaving you dead prey is actually bringing you a present so don't be too hard on the cat. I know from experience, its not that nice to find them though.

Good luck!
Reply:Re: weeing in a bottle, apparently this isn't quite good enough!! My Grandad (in Australia) had to go out under cover of darkness and wee directly on the garden!! But it worked!!
Reply:I use dried blood to keep the squirrels away from digging up my bulbs. It works well and is good for the garden too. You can try that.
Reply:IF THERE UR CATS PUT THERE FOOD SOME WERE ELSE.

IF NOT JUST GET A DOG.
Reply:do you have dogs?... it would be better to have more than one to chase those cats away from your garden...or have a garden hose with sprinklers, put it at the center of your gaden where cats used to stay....remember that cats hates water!...have a nice day.
Reply:A friend of mine suggested urinating in a bottle and sprinkling round the garden; apparently you're marking your territory and it deters the filthy creatures. Just don't let on to the neighbours.. Say it's wee'ed killer..
Reply:grated orange peel works wonders
Reply:I have bought some plants called pee off plants aparantly cats don't like the smell. I also have an animal pest scarer, I got it from.www.windsorproducts.com And that works well cost around £25 but worth it.Good Luck.

Reply:It may be an old wives tale but My aunt always poured beer around her garden to keep unwanted animals away from it and so far the neighborhood strays do not mess with her garden. It sounds goofy but it never hurts to try.
Reply:the only way that you could keep him out iis put a fence around the plants but that might not even work you really cant do anything to keep the cat out of the garden cats just like to rome wherever and hide there animals that they find i would watch out that might be your cats new hiding place
Reply:we had the same problem, we filled milk bottles with water, and put them around the garden, especially near your plants. When the cats see these, they get scared because they are apparently scared of their own reflection. Trust me- it works!!
Reply:I am not certain what will work! I do know that you can buy moth balls, and sprinkle them around the edges and keep snakes and such out. I just found that if you put a "rough" mulch in the garden that they dont like walking on, they won't go in there.
Reply:Everytime you see one just chuck water on it, keep doing it till it gets the message.
Reply:put bottals of water down and put littal holes in the bottles that will stop them
Reply:you can buy boxes that emit a high pitched noise (we cant hear it)that keep cats away
Reply:you may consider adopting the cats and placing them in your home?
Reply:somebody once told me that soaking a t-bag in muscle rub (heat rub) and burying it just below the soil works. not sure how or why. i have a magic stone that keeps elephants out of my garden, i don't know how that works either but never seen any in my garden.
Reply:a dog!!!!
Reply:Got to the pet store, They have a spray that has a smell that cats hate, it's harmless to the cats, but keeps them away.
Reply:Accept the fact that they are animals and they are doing what comes naturally. They were here before humans you know!
Reply:Try slug repelent that works

or if not plant garlic bulbs in your garden, drives them nuts cause they cant stand the smell and it also means you could sell the garlic once its grown, for that little added extra income.
Reply:Well it does your garden good! Its free compost
Reply:they will grow out of it....i know it's disgusting though, my cats used to bring in all sorts and i hated it!!! i actually saved a shrew's life once cause i felt so bad for it!! but they have grown out of it now. cats think it's a good thing to bring their owners presents and they think they will be rewarded for it...and don't understand it's wrong even if we tell them sternly!! i wouldn't worry about it I'm sure they will grow out of it...if not...then good luck!! xx
Reply:cats dont like the smell of garlic or onions....
