How can I stop my garden pond pump from blocking up?
http://www.mvwgs.org/filter.htm This site will give you instruction on how to make a filter. It protects the pump from debris, mine has been running all summer without being cleaned. You can make the filter any size that fits your needs, you will just have to find a container to start with. Any plastic box that allows water to flow freely will work. It protects the pump and also provide biological filtering. Works great for us.
Reply:if it is just for water fountain place in a pot on a brick
Reply:put a old colonder upside down on the bottom over the pump and stand your fountain on the top it will stop the snails and newts frogs and such getting suked in or an old pond basket(empty) upside down the same will do the trick hope you have success with this it worked for me eric john. let me know if it works
Reply:I wrapped mine with non-metal windowscreen. Works like a charm!
Reply:Obviously, the pump placed on the bottom will pick up unwanted debris. To avoid potential problem, I can help you get protective pump enclosure.

Reply:put some kind of filter around the intake pipe
Reply:Cheap and cheerful answer, cut the foot off a pair of tights, wrap around the pump and it'll act as a filter-renew as required.
Reply:Cover the opening with a net or a filter to prevent solid particles and these organisms from entering.
