Is there any natural ways to keep deer out of a garden without the use of fence?

Have garden,can't afford fence,deer like stuff in garden. I've used chili powder with some success in the past but I had to reapply every time it rained. any info would be great.

Spray pepper mace on the leaves...it wont wash off in the rain as easy as it is oil based. Just be sure to wear gloves in your garden, and dont rub your eyes until you wash your hands for a few days after application! Even though the product seems quite nasty...it is just concentrated hot peppers and is natural and safe if eaten in small amounts in the veggies, if you grow things to snack on. The product can be bought legally in some states and on the internet for about 20.00. oh, only use the actual pepper mace, I believe you can get CN tear gas mace as well, I dont know what effects that would give for surviving rain storms, not to mention if you eat it...90% of the stuff sold is pure pepper mace, just read carefully
Reply:I have not tried this myself bc it's kind of gross-but my grandpa swears by using human hair-cleaned out of a hairbrush or get from a salon wrapped in cheesecloth laid around the garden....
Reply:I just read an article about keeping deer away , said to take Ivory Bar soap break it into pieces put it in a nylon stocking and hang it around the area, they don't like scent.
Reply:A good dog would be the most natural... A solar-powered motion detector with a light and noise-maker attached will do it too. An old radio or anything that doesn't use much power will be fine. Check http://harborfreight.com/ fot the motion detctor, they will probably have the best price.

Reply:The japanese have been using "deer scarers" for centuries. Run a search for "shishi odoshi". I found a few sites on how to make them. If you're on a real tight budget, it might not be the way to go. Good luck.
Reply:There is a product called Big Cat Urine. (Thats right ) It will keep the deer out and away and it takes a long time for it to fade evan with rain.
