I have a quite a big garden for a flat. but the grass is very dense and the ground is uneven. The worst part is the back of the garden, it's so lumpy even the flymo doesn't glide easily over it. I would like the back of the garden dug up, and bark or something laid down so my lawn is smaller. The area I would like dug up is probably about 20ft by 10ft in size. I would like to get someone in to do it, how much roughly would it be ? Is it something i could do myself?
How much to dig up a garden?
Hi,it is hard graft digging a garden. If you decide to do it yourself then this is the right time to do it.Then over winter leave it to break up put plenty of fertiliser on it.If you decide to get some one in is there any young men in your area who would like to earn a few bob.Mind its getting them to do the work.Good Luck
Reply:Not a lot of ground there and you could do it your self.
To get some one in your looking at £12 + per hour
Reply:look in local free press .get several quotes .
Reply:You could hire a garden tiller for the day to dig over your new bed. about £20 to £30.
You could simply get someone in to re lay your whole lawn then it will be easy to mow.£ depend on the size of the area.
Another alternative would be to get a few sacks of topsoil delivered, lay it over the existing grass, rake it level and re seed it. I did this and treated it with feed and weed last year, I have a lovely lawn now. It cost me about £25.
Reply:20 x 10 feet is nothing. Should take an afternoon at most. Get a few mates round and lay on a few drinks and nibbles. Make sure they get the digging done before they get to lashed though!
Reply:you can do it. my tip is to use a garden fork (or spade) which is not too wide. It is better to dig three small fork-fulls than to strain your back with a big heavy fork-full.
A bonus if you do it yourself is (as well as the exercise!), you can make sure that weed roots etc are taken out and do not just get buried.
Reply:You can do it, it's a lot of work but doing it your self is more fulfilling, that you did the work yourself. If you have kids, get them to help too.
Reply:You should be able to rent a rototiller from home depot or any outdoor place much more reasonable than hiring it done. However if you aren't strong or have a truck to haul it home you should hire it. Anywhere around $20. and hour is the usual cost for this work. Unless of course you have a friend who has a rototiller.......
Reply:I did landscape my own garden with the help of my nephews and I enjoyed it very much.Just use your artistic ideas on a garden. It didn't cost me a lot except buying those Bermuda grass and a snack for my nephews. Happy gardenning..
Reply:1) Buy a large bottle of ADVIL
2) Make an appointment with a massage therapist
3) Make an appointment with your chiropractor
4) Start digging S L O W L Y
OR
5)Contact your local college/high school and offer a small fee for a few hefty, good looking young dudes to come play in your backyard for a day ...or two...or three...

Reply:Yes you and your family can do it yourself with a pick axe, wont take much time and saves aload of money getting someone to do it.
Reply:If you intend to hire a digger to do this you must understand that you need to hire a driver too and they can be expensive. My hubby does this kind of thing as a sideline and he will be paid anywhere between £1500-£2000 + just for digging out a hole/garden/driveway but be aware that he does this in London where the prices are high and also the person who wants the digging done has usually hired a digger at their own expense. It depends on the size but he will nearly always get it done in 1 day, but like I said, with a digger.
Reply:Send an email to a freind in Iraq explaining that the "stuff is burried in the garden". Give it a couple of hours then the authorities will turn up and dip up the whole garden for you free of charge!!
Reply:!0ft x 20ft isn't a very large plot, you can do that yourself, just take your time so you don't hurt your back, 2 or 3 days should see the job done.
Reply:you can do it yourself. get friends or family to give you a hand
but make sure the soil is really soft and watered before you start digging
or your arms will hurt big time.
also get all the weeds (including roots) out and away before you start digging or you will have roots left behind in the soil and the weeds will come back.
you can even hire a rotavator from a hire-it shop which digs up the soil very well
Reply:phone the police and say there is a 4 year old buried out there . They will do the hard work for you
Reply:Use a rotervator and you could do it easily in a morning yourself. You can hire them from hardware shops.
Reply:You could quite easily do it yourself but beware it is hard work and you will need a skip. Make sure you mow it first it will make it easier to dig up. If it is uneven try evening it out by laying sand down where its uneven and leave it till spring the grass will grow through the sand and before you know it you have a nice even lawn.
