How do you attract toads to a garden?

I live on Long Island and am starting a garden. How can I make a toad house?

How do you attract toads to a garden?
It may be a old wive's tale, but it is said that toads are attracted by sage, and repelled by rue.
Reply:The simplest form of toad house is a terra cotta pot with a piece broken off from the rim and inverted so it looks like a little igloo, or broken in half so it looks like a little quonset hut. There are commercially made toad houses available also. But realistically, toads live without "houses" in the wild. We have toads and haven't done anything to attract them.

Avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides will help also. There haven't been any chemicals used in our yard for over 25 years and we always see toads.
