I have moss growing profusely on all my garden paths and want to remove it with ingredients that won't harm my pet dog or cat. I have a water pressure cleaner, however some of the concrete is beginning to erode, so I don't wish to use it.
How do I kill moss on concrete garden paths without killing pets?
boiling water works for me. you pour a kettle full of boiling water on the plant and cook it. you may need to do this more than one time but water will not hurt your pets. and the bonus youcan have a cup of tea atthe same time LOL.
Reply:salt, salt water, and bleach if careful.
I've never had any problems with bleach, just dont let pet near it for an hour or 2!
Reply:3 parts water one part Clorox in any kind of sprayer or pouring directly, apply generously and within a couple days it'll come off easly with a garden hose.
Reply:Use your pressure washer, just hold it off the concrete a bit. You don't need to have those half an inch from the concrete to work.
Reply:You might try a heavy mixture of salt water. I have used it to kill certain weeds and it works. Keep the pets off until it dries, only because the salt may sting their feet.
Additional info: If you use this repeatedly, it can erode or deteriorate the surface of the concrete.

I have ants and slugs in my garden?
They are in my vegetable garden and I don't want to spray any commercial killers for fear of food contamination. Any home remedies or food freindly products that anyone can recommend?

Use sevin dust 5%... its poisonous but if you wash your veggies before you cook/eat them you will be safe and it really works, but you have to re-apply after every rain.

Sprinkle contents of the Nutrasweet packages wherever ants are, whether inside the house or outside in the garden. Supposedly it works wonders and on all types of ants too including Fire Ants. As for the garden slugs, dig shallow hole(s) to fit an aluminum disposable pie tin and even the tin off level in the hole and with the surrounding earth and fill the tin with beer. The beer attracts the slugs, they fall in and drown (but I think they die pretty happy). This remedy has been around for years and years.

Reply:The easiest and most cost effective, and no pesticide way, (besides being pretty) is to plant chrysanthemums in and around the garden. Bugs of all kids HATE THEM, and will stay well away. I've used that in a regular garden, and now that I'm container planting, I also plant them around the rim of the container vegetables, and I have never found one ant or slug, or any other bugs except for bee's!!! You can get the regular mums, that they sell in the fall, or the separate orange and yellow ones that they sell in the spring. Both work great!!!!! Also after the planting season is over, dry the flowers, and put the petals in your couch cushions and under your furniture to kill and keep away flea's in the house

How do I supply electricity to the garden shed?
I would like to have electric power in a garden shed located 100 feet from the house.

Since the introduction of Building Regulations Part P, you must employ a qualified registered electrician to install any electrical wiring and equiptment within or outside your home. Sorry this will cost but its better to be safe than sorry.
Reply:There is two ways you can do this, one is to run a cable 1.5 sq.mm under ground which is a lot of digging, the other way is to run an overhead cable of the same size, from the house to the shed, as you don't require a lot of power this would do just fine. The cable should be supported by a strong wire ' called a catenary wire' and can simply be plugged into a socket in the house.

If you HAVE, run an underground cable from the garage to wherever your breaker box is located. Then use a separate breaker for the garage.

Bury the wire all the way to your shed ,then install an outlet box and hook up to a plug. Make shure you look at the back of the plug to find the white and black side for the wires. Or call an electrician.

How can I get rid of numerous garden orb spiders that cover my landscaping every summer?
We get over a hundred spiders that spin webs all around our yard, in all the bushes, trees, and on our deck furniture. I am looking for ideas on how we can eliminate them. I believe they are garden orb spiders. It makes it impossible to enjoy our yard and deck all summer. They don't come into the house so that is not a problem, just the outside.

Wow, are you lucky. They eat so many insects. If the webs are on furniture or across paths, take the webs down when the spiders are not in them. They will move elsewhere. Although doing this may kill the spiders anyway, because many spiders eat their webs in order to reuse the silk. Silk takes alot of energy to produce, and by eating the old silk, the spider saves energy and physical resources.
I am scared to death of spiders. But I won't kill them outside.
Reply:keep a long stick handy out there and just take down the webs that are in your way.... they'll make another one somewhere else.... it would seem that you have a great yard, cuz at some point, an egg case opened and a lot of babies came out and decided to stay!!!.... you must have lots of food handy for them... which means.... if there's no spiders to eat them, you'll be over-run with bugs..... so I'd be of the mind to put up with at least SOME of them..... what's worse?....a spider sitting quietly on her web over there on the bushes or funny lookin' bugs crawling all over your chair and table?.... yeah....

How do I grow a gorgeous indoor garden?
I am 13 and I said this question because I live in a townhouse and they give you no space what so ever to plant anything (not even grass!) and if you do grow a garden, the curious and wild littlier children will mess with it and so will the pit bulls that roam around (scary, isn't it), and I said this because my teacher got me interested in flowers. I am interested in it and wanted to try it. A lot of details would be highly appreciated! I am just starting to love flowers, help me please!

i would think that chicken wire or some sort of small trellis would support it, most importantly you need to know what these plants are, some may be specimens personally harvested off of cliff faces by the artist. you can probably find a good fertilizer recammendation by checking out a garden store that specializes in hydroponics, I am sure you can figure out a homemade recirculating pump/reservior system to keep the nutrients and water flowing over the roots since gravity will be doing half the work. yeah and make sure your window faces south or you won;t have any light in the wintertime. hope you get it built looks really cool, maybe you could incorperate a waterfall and aquarium/pond into it as well. good luck
